STEP #7 -  LAUNCHING YOUR WORDPRESS WEBSITE

In our last step we are going to finalize your WordPress set up by (A) entering database information and (B) entering website information.  Once this is done you will be able to take the first steps into your new home on the Web.  Let’s get going.

A1.  In FileZilla, or your FTP client, go to your domain (www.example.com) and open the “Content” folder.

A2.  Secondly, open the “Web” folder.  Inside this folder you will find “index.html”.  You need to delete it or change the name.  I change mine to indexoriginal.html or something similar so if I have issues I can use it again.

A3.  In your Web browser (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Safari, etc.), go to your website (www.example.com).  Click on the “Refresh” button.  You may not see any changes for a few minutes and that’s OK.  Good time for a snack : )

A4.  When the new page shows up, click on the “Create a Configuration File” button.

A5.  Click the “Let’s Go” button.

A6.  On the next page, fill in the “Database Name”, “User Name”, “Password”, and “Database Host” by copying and pasting them from your Google doc where they are saved.

A7.  In the “Table Prefix” box, fill in anything you like after the “wp_”.  I use a mixture of the site name and the date or who knows what.  Don’t forget to copy what you have put in the box to your Google document.

NOTE:  The next page will hopefully call you Sparky.  It’s a good thing.

 B1.  When your page changes it should be the Welcome Page.  Enter your Site Title, what you would like your site to be called.  You can change this later.

B2.  Pick a username, write this in your Google doc. and copy / paste it into the Username box.

B3.  Pick a password and write this in your Google doc.  Copy / paste it into the two Password boxes.

B4.  Insert your email in the E-mail box.

B5.  If you would like your website to be found online, leave the “Allow…” box checked with a mark.  If not, don’t.

B6.  Finally, click the “Install WordPress” button at the bottom.

The Success! Page will show up and WordPress will send you a confirmation email.

B7.  Click the “Log In” button, log in on the next page and…SHAZAM, you are now ready to start you’re very own Wordprees website.

Nice job.  You did it!  Way to go!  And now it’s time to have fun with Themes, Plugins, and Customization.  Have fun!
